Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich

Shift patterns and Duties 

Postnatal 8:30 -17:00 (Holds the delivery bleep)

-Involves performing regular head to toe baby checks

- Always look at the NIPE book which has a list of every child that requires a need for a head to toe examination. 

- Will assist in delivery suite for newborns.

Safari  SD/ LD 08:30-17:00/ 8:30 -20:30

- Hand over usually at 8am followed by ward round. 

​

Hippos SD/LD 08:30-17:00/08:30 - 21:00

- Attend handover and review patients presenting to the 

- If on long day, covers A&E referrals with support from registrar 

​

Paeds Nights 20:30 - 09:00 

- covers safari ward and A&E referrals with registrar support

Advice

- Download paediatric formulary, greenbook

- Get comfortable with the head to toe baby checks and always ask if unsure about any abnormal findings

​

Learning opportunities

- Weekly teaching simulation sessions are extremely helpful and usually take place on Thursdays. 

- Get involved in the perinatal meetings: great opportunity for learning and recording significant events.
