Leave request
The following arrangements should be made when booking any planned leave.
Standard days
Doctors are responsible for arranging cover by their pairing doctor (where applicable). The doctor taking leave must make arrangements to cancel their clinics (where appropriate) during their leave period. Due to availability, the pairing doctor will only be expected to provide a limited service and this must be discussed between the 2 doctors when arranging cover.

Long days
-Your rota includes prospective cover so you must swap the extended part of the day - that is the 17:00 to 21:15 part of the day.
-The 09:00 to 17:00 will be covered by your pairing doctor if applicable.
-The exception to this is weekends/bank hols where you will be expected to swap the whole day(s), i.e. from 09:00 to 21:15.

Nights
-Should you wish to take leave when rota’d to cover nights, you must swap your run of nights with a doctor scheduled to work standard/long days during that period.
-You will then be scheduled for days during the period you wish to be on leave, and should follow the normal requirements regarding cover/swaps. In addition, you must ensure that your new nights do not conflict with your paired doctor’s leave plans.

Application Forms for planned leave
Holiday and study leave applications must be submitted well in advance (T&Cs state 6 weeks’ notice should be given).
Completed leave application forms should be approved by your consultant (plus Clinical Tutor for study leave) and then passed to your Medical Staffing Officer (MSO) who will check them and authorise on behalf of the Clinical Director. You will be notified via email re the leave request outcome.

Other
Should a doctor be covering their pairing doctor who is on nights, the doctor will be expected to attend their teaching/academic as usual and emergency cover will be provided by the duty doctor.
