Paediatric Assessment Unit - Hippos

 

Shift patterns 6 months 

Standard day 

Usually 2 trainees at a time. One trainee covers Monday and Tuesday. Other trainee covers Thursday and Friday.

Hours 0830 - 1700

 

Duties - clerking patients in Hippo Unit

GP referrals, UCC referrals, Expected pts from clinic.

Cases not seen in Hippos and seen in Paeds ED or in resus by paeds:

Trauma, accidental substance ingestion, priority calls, SOB or O2 requirement.

Advice

There’s always senior support. The team is very friendly so don’t be afraid to ask. Induction for paediatrics is pretty thorough
